Privacy policy
Last updated 25 October 2026
UpstartRadar (upstartradar.com) is run by Nathaniel Scifleet in New South Wales, Australia. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and how you can access, correct or delete it. We aim to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, username and password. Passwords are stored only in scrambled (hashed) form, so we can't read them.
- Profile details you choose to add: a photo, bio and website.
- What you post: project listings, screenshots, asks, updates and comments, and the projects you back.
- Activity on the site: your points, credits, featured bookings, when you download member files such as RuleRadar, and who referred you, if anyone.
- Newsletter: if you sign up, your email address, when and where you signed up, and the wording you agreed to. We send the newsletter through an email service provider (currently Kit), which handles your address only to send it. When you confirm, we pass your email address (and your first name, if you're a member) to Kit, and when you unsubscribe here we tell Kit too. Every issue has a one-click unsubscribe, and you can unsubscribe from your Account page at any time.
- Anonymous visit statistics: which pages are viewed, which project website links are clicked, and the website a visitor came from. Each visitor is counted using a scrambled code that changes every day. We don't store your internet address for this and don't use cookies for it. Creators see totals for their own projects.
- Technical information: to slow down spam and password guessing, we record recent activity against a scrambled version of your internet address. We don't store the address itself.
- For projects we add ourselves: the project's public details (name, description, logo and website), and if we contact the creator, their name and email and a note of how they agreed or where we found the project. Creators can ask us to change or remove a listing at any time.
Cookies
We use a cookie to keep you logged in, and, if you arrive through a member's referral link, a cookie for up to 60 days that remembers who referred you. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. Websites you visit through links on UpstartRadar, including affiliate links, have their own cookies and policies.
How we use it
- To run your account and show what you choose to make public: your profile, listings, comments, backs and points.
- To send emails about your account: confirming your email, password resets, listing approvals, comments on your projects and similar.
- To keep the site fair and safe, including spotting fake accounts and misuse of points.
- To answer your messages.
Your email address is never shown publicly. We don't sell, rent or trade personal information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Who else handles it
The site is hosted by Namecheap, whose servers may be outside Australia, including in the United States. Emails are sent through our hosting provider or an email sending service. These providers handle information only to run their services for us. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
Affiliate links
Some links to tools are affiliate links, labelled "Affiliate link". If you click one, the other company may learn that you came from UpstartRadar. We don't pass them your account details.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, your profile, listings, comments, backs and points are deleted. Copies may remain in backups for a short time before they're overwritten.
Your choices
- You can see and change your details on your Account page, and delete your account there at any time.
- You can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, or for it to be corrected, by emailing support@upstartradar.com (contact page).
Security
We use secure connections (https), store passwords in hashed form, and limit repeated login attempts. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don't use elsewhere.
Questions or complaints
Email support@upstartradar.com (contact page). We'll reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed, and we'll email members about significant changes.
